about

The Dawn of the World is one of band's most popular songs and a regular show staple. Most often, when people ask, "What was that song...?" they are referring to The Dawn of the World. An epic 9 minute psychedelic journey, Dawn takes the listener on a journey from the dunes of an ancient civilization to the deep heart of outer space as it's characters search for the divine and the unknown in their respective worlds.

Originally part of the concept album, "Unreal City," The Dawn of the World was so popular that the band knew they had to re-record it.

lyrics

On Sunday, the King and Queen of Avalon
Sitting atop their lumbering elephants
At the dawn, ride toward the newborn sunrise
Stained pink and red by the holiest light.

Peasants and prostitutes dancing at their heels
Shaking brass ringlets that sing like silver bells
Tapping the beat with their feet between the stomp
Writhing and dancing as their entourage.

I am couched in my cockpit
Searching for the mystery.
My instrument panel glows coldly
Staining my faceplate blue and green.

I am flying through darkness.
Planets pass by my window.
I see what’s never been seen
As I move through what is unknown.

One hundred horns blaring from the horizon.
Over their heads glows a shining white nimbus.
Minds burning with the one, eternal question.
Marching with entourage to the Gates of Heaven.

The stars twinkle distantly at me.
Perhaps someday I’ll reach them.
I never know where I’ll be tomorrow
Or who or what I’ll be by then.

I don’t know where I am going.
As I search for some unknown place.
I point my starship straight into
The cold black heart of space.

Kings, Queens, and peasants
With the eternal question
Marching in entourage
To the Gates of Heaven.

I don’t know where I’m going to
As I search for mystery.
I point my starship straight into
The cold black heart of space.
